What does a typical day involve?
The majority of my time is filled with planning and developing back end systems for client websites, third party integration and e-commerce set ups.
I also have to schedule in any maintenance or upgrades to our hosting platform. If there is a little bit of time left in the day I work on Extras for our MODX community side of the business: extras.io.
What do you enjoy most about working at Adido?
My colleagues, my friends, my second family. Our creative team is one of a kind – we all get on very well together and wouldn’t want to change any of them. Through the fun days and the hard, we stick together and pull everyone through.
What has been your career highlight so far?
I was speaking at a MODX conference in 2014 and demonstrated a feature I had been working on for some time and when the audience saw it working it was an “Apple Conference” Steve Jobs moment… Gasps, Applause, etc.
What’s your favourite thing about Bournemouth?
The view. I run a lot and do a few marathons every year so being able to run along the cliffs and by the beach is great and stunningly beautiful in the evenings.
Tell us something about you that your colleagues don’t know yet!
When I was younger I was part of the Dolphin Marching Band, we took 40 of us and our instruments across to Disney World, Florida and took part in the Main Street Parade along side Mickey, Minnie and all the other characters
Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
I tap my fingers… A lot. On desks, chairs, tables – Stemming back from being a musician this habit has never gone. I’m pretty sure it annoys some people too.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Right now… Jenson Button – He runs marathons, triathlons and races cars for a living. It would be great to get some training advice and go out for a run.
What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
Training for (and running) the London Marathon. Although it wasn’t my first Marathon it was the first time I was training through the winter, it takes a lot of determination to get out on cold, wet, windy January mornings for 12-16 mile runs. Now that I’ve done that I feel like I can do anything.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
“Pain is only temporary, Finishers medals last a lifetime” – seen at various miles around Marathons. A gentle reminder that all the hard work is paying off and it will all be over soon.
How many e-mails are sitting in your inbox?
7,461 – but 0 unread. I tried to do a Zero inbox philosophy but clearly it’s working out for me.
Slogan for life...
...“You can sleep when you’re old” – I’m quite an active person, and like to keep busy.
What is your favourite film?
Anything by Tom Hanks… Would have to say Saving Private Ryan or Toy Story when it’s movie time with the children.
